The Face in Black n White

The Nurse in Black

Colourful Morning

Have you ever noticed while browsing through some magazines, that some photos are very sharp and full of vivid colours? I am not sure about you guys, but I feel that such photos are very pleasant to the viewer. It has something to do with the colours I believe.

The girl from Cebu

Travelling has always been the passion for many among us. People travel for different reasons, at times for reasons beyond comprehension. I guess this model also likes travelling. I managed to get hold of her during one of her trips and snapped those photos.

Among the Trees

At times, I just love to shoot outdoors. I enjoy working with natural light, with flowers and greenery. I like the scent of the flowers surrounding me. It evokes a unique feeling. It is what I would like to call Serenity.

The only hiccup is the scorching sun, after 9am, which I would like to call, Singapore Sun. It makes life hard for the photographer and even harder for his work.

Anyway, that is all part of the fun, and all part of a bigger picture. Add all that together, and what you eventually get are photos filled with memories and photos which may mean a lot more to the photographer than what just the eyes can see

Morning Shoot @ Istana

My dad asked me a while ago "where is the Istana?" Well I answered him, it is opposite Plaza Singapura.

Why did he ask this? Simply because he lives overseas and only visited Singapore twice. Why am I telling you guys this? Well, his question made me realise something. It made me realise that people can travel through my photography, they can see the world through the lenses that I use to capture the pictures. In fact, it goes a bit further, they can see the world that I want to show them, the way I want to portray it.

It is quite amazing, right? It makes me wonder how much of the world will I be able to show to people through the photographs that I take.

Saturday Shoot

How young can one start to model for photoshoot? This is the other side of photography. In portraiture or fashion shoots, it involves more than just the shooter. There is a model, whose role, is as important as the photographer.

A good model brings life to the photos. Often, people have questions in their mind, each time they look at a photo that involves a model. At times they wonder about what is the model looking at, at other times they simply ask themselves what kind of emotion is the model trying to portray at that moment the shutter was depressed.

For me, I wanted to take this opportunity to look back at all the models I had the chance to work with and I would like to say thanks to all of them for helping me out in my photography.

As to the question in the first line, I have no clue what the answer is. Perhaps we'll find out together eventually.

A Small Note

Many people ask me "what camera do you use?". Well, I use a Canon 5D Mark II for most of my shoots. For some of the outdoor shoots especially, I use the Canon 500D.

The other question that people also ask "What lens do you use?" Most of the time, I use the 28-105mm lens as a walk-around lens and I also use the kit lens on the Canon 500D, it is a 18-55mm. For some of the portrait shoots, I will use the 50mm lens. The 1st two are actually kit lenses and the 50mm lens only has a 1.8 aperture and costs less than SGD150.

Why am I writing all this then? Is it to brag about the equipment? Well, not really. Actually far from that. In fact, I want to let the readers know; for sure, to take photos like a pro, you will have to invest in some of the pro equipment. But to take good photos filled with creativity and life, then any SLR can work just fine.

So with even the entry level SLRs, like the Canon 1000D or the Nikon D3000, the photos can still look amazing. My advice is; before you decide to spend more on photography related equipment, make sure that there is nothing more you can do with what you currently and already own.

If you have a SLR or you are planning to buy one, then take some time, borrow a photography related book, and do some reading first. Or ask me questions (simple ones please)and hopefully these would be the same questions that I used to ask my peers and I may have some answers for you.

If good quality photos, using a SLR, is what you are looking for then, you will need the SLR to begin with, but you will also need a lot of patience, a fair amount of understanding about Exposure. You will probably need a tripod and also a bit of luck, if I may add.

Anyway HAPPY SHOOTING!

Saturday Shoot

Since it rained and we couldn't do an outdoor shoot, we had to find other means and ways to get those photos. In fact, many of us are discouraged whenever it rains. But trust me, everytime the sky is grey or dark, take out your camera and snap some photos, and you will be amazed how they come out.
